  • Agta hunter–gatherer oral microbiomes are shaped by contact network structure

    Open Access•Federico Musciotto, Begoña Dobón et al.•ARTICLE•Evolutionary Human Sciences•2023•Citada por: 1•Referências: 6

Here we investigate the effects of extensive sociality and mobility on the oral microbiome of 138 Agta hunter–gatherers from the Philippines. Our comparisons of microbiome composition showed that the Agta are more similar to Central African BaYaka hunter–gatherers than to neighbouring farmers. We also defined the Agta social microbiome as a set of 137 oral bacteria (only 7% of 1980 amplicon sequence variants) significantly influenced by social co…

  • Neolithic to Bronze Age economy and animal management revealed using analyses lipid residues of pottery vessels and faunal remains at El Portalón de Cueva Mayor (Sierra de Atapuerca, Spain)

    Open Access•Marta Francés-Negro, Eneko Iriarte et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2021•Citada por: 6•Referências: 9

  • The Evolution of Lactose Tolerance in Dairying Populations

Pascale Gerbault, Catherine Walker et al.•CHAPTER•Oxford Handbook of the…•2017

Among the biocultural innovations associated with the Neolithic, dairying and the evolution of lactose tolerance is the most studied. Expression of the enzyme lactase, which digests the milk sugar lactose, decreases after weaning in mammals, including most humans. However, some humans express lactase throughout adulthood—a trait known as lactase persistence (LP). Striking observations about LP evolution include: (i) a strong correlation between L…

  • A genomic history of Aboriginal Australia

    Open Access•Anna‐Sapfo Malaspinas, Anna-Sapfo Malaspinas et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2016

The population history of Aboriginal Australians remains largely uncharacterized. Here we generate high-coverage genomes for 83 Aboriginal Australians (speakers of Pama–Nyungan languages) and 25 Papuans from the New Guinea Highlands. We find that Papuan and Aboriginal Australian ancestors diversified 25–40 thousand years ago (kya), suggesting pre-Holocene population structure in the ancient continent of Sahul (Australia, New Guinea and Tasmania).…

  • Statistically robust representation and comparison of mortality profiles in archaeozoology

    Open Access•Pascale Gerbault, Rosalind E Gillis et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2016•Citada por: 15•Referências: 8

  • Human Evolutionary Genetics

Open Access•Pascale Gerbault, Matthew Gwynfryn Thomas et al.•CHAPTER•International Encyclopedia of the…•2015

  • Widespread exploitation of the honeybee by early Neolithic farmers

    Open Access•M Roffet-Salque, Martine Regert et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2015

  • Evaluating demographic models for goat domestication using mtDNA sequences

Open Access•Pascale Gerbault, Adam Powell et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropozoologica•2012•Citada por: 1•Referências: 37

Routes of migration and exchange are important factors in the debate about how the Neolithic transition spread into Europe. Studying the genetic diversity of livestock can help in tracing back some of these past events. Notably, domestic goat (Capra hircus) did not have any wild progenitors (Capra aegagrus) in Europe before their arrival from the Near East. Studies of mitochondrial DNA have shown that the diversity in European domesticated goats …

  • Evolution of lactase persistence

Open Access•Pascale Gerbault, Anke Liebert et al.•ARTICLE•Philosophical Transactions of the…•2011

Niche construction is the process by which organisms construct important components of their local environment in ways that introduce novel selection pressures. Lactase persistence is one of the clearest examples of niche construction in humans. Lactase is the enzyme responsible for the digestion of the milk sugar lactose and its production decreases after the weaning phase in most mammals, including most humans. Some humans, however, continue to…

  • MtDNA and Y‐chromosome diversity in Aymaras and Quechuas from Bolivia

    Open Access•Magdalena Gayà‐vidal, Pedro Moral et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2011•Citada por: 9•Referências: 60

Two Bolivian samples belonging to the two main Andean linguistic groups (Aymaras and Quechuas) were studied for mtDNA and Y‐chromosome uniparental markers to evaluate sex‐specific differences and give new insights into the demographic processes of the Andean region. mtDNA‐coding polymorphisms, HVI‐HVII control regions, 17 Y‐STRs, and three SNPs were typed in two well‐defined populations with adequate size samples. The two Bolivian samples showed …
