  • Evolutionary Geomorphology of Australia

    C D Ollier•ARTICLE•Transactions of the Institute of…•1981

First I should stress that my paper was first presented in England at a symposium on longterm landscape evolution, and delivered to an audience that had a very short time-scale in mind, as seen by an Australian. I was not trying to preach to the converted. The typical British view is indicated by the recent book on Timescales in geomorphology (Cullingford et al., 1980) which deals with short time-scales (c. 101 to 102 years); medium time-scales (…

  • Evolutionary Geomorphology of Australia and Papua

    C D Ollier•ARTICLE•Transactions of the Institute of…•1979•Citada por: 4

By means of examples it is demonstrated that much of the geomorphology of Australia dates back to early Cenozoic, Mesozoic and even Palaeozoic times. Papua-New Guinea is built of several fragments that had different histories before they collided with the Australian plate, and it is meaningless to construct a geomorphic history on the present map of the country. Despite signs of geomorphic youth, such as Pleistocene granite and gneiss domes, even…

  • Geology and scenery of Canberra

    M C Brown, C D Ollier•ARTICLE•Australian Geographer•1975•Citada por: 1•Referências: 4

The relief of the Canberra area results from Upper Tertiary to Recent differential erosion of folded and faulted Palaeozoic rocks. Black Mountain is a syncline in Lower Silurian sandstone (not a horst); Mount Ainslie is a synclinal remnant of formerly more widespread Silurian volcanics (not a little‐modified Devonian volcano); Mount Painter and Mount Taylor consist of Silurian volcanics like Mount Ainslie; Mugga Mugga consists of intrusive porphy…
