How Does Traditional Clan Culture Shape Trust in Local Government
Using data from the 2014 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), this paper examines how clan culture influences trust in local government and explores the mechanisms underlying this relationship. The results show a significant positive effect: Stronger clan culture is associated with higher levels of trust in local government. Robustness checks and instrumentalvariable estimates corroborate the main findings. The mechanism analysis indicates that cla…
Fertility policy relaxation and household energy consumption
How Two-Child Policy Affects China's Energy Consumption
Background: Existing literature believed that the birth control policy affects energy consumption through the change in population size, but ignored the changes in people's lifestyle. This may mislead the government's policy-making about population and energy consumption. Method: This article proposed a Population-Lifestyle-Energy (PLE) model to provide new insights into how birth control policy affects energy consumption if the changes in people…
Effect of topographic variations and tillage methods on gully erosion in the black soil region
Gully erosion is considered to be a severe land degradation process around the world. The combined effects of tillage methods and topographic variation on gully erosion are poorly understood. This study investigated permanent gullies in three farmland, geomorphic areas in the black soil region of Northeastern China: low mountains and hills, tableland, and rolling hill areas. Cross‐sectional measurements were used to obtain estimates of volumetric…
Desertification affecting the Tibetan Plateau between 1971–2015
Our understanding of desertification on the Tibetan Plateau (TP) is limited. This study aims to fill the knowledge gap by examining desertification and the underlying climatic factors between 1971–2015 on the TP using a dynamic vegetation model and observation‐based gridded climate data. Four factors including precipitation, days with above the threshold wind, simulated vegetation fractional plant coverage and soil moisture (SM) in 0–40 cm depth …
Labor Costs, Market Environment and Green Technological Innovation
Emerging economies face the challenge of increasing labor costs but also provide an opportunity to promote environmental governance and green development. Based on the perspectives of impetus and capability, the effects of rising labor costs and market environment on green technological innovation are investigated in this study. The empirical studies used the data of high-pollution firms in China from 2009 to 2018. Results demonstrate that rising…
End-member modeling of the grain size record of loess in the Mu Us Desert and implications for dust sources
Holocene water-level changes inferred from a section of fluvio-lacustrine sediments in the southeastern Mu Us Desert, China
Holocene environmental change and its influence on the prehistoric culture evolution and the formation of the Taosi site in Linfen basin, Shanxi province, China
