Effects of Death Education on Fear of Death and Attitudes towards Death and Life
The effects of a death education course were determined for two different classes of students, comparing them with students of sex education and introductory psychology. All students completed a variety of attitudinal, motivational and demographic background measures before and at the end of their courses. Life and Death Attitudes of Parents of Mildly Dysfunctional Children
Dysfunctional children are known to have negative effects on parents. The present study investigated whether such children affect parents' attitudes towards life and death. Attitudes of a sample of 21 parents of mildly dysfunctional children were compared to those of parents of nondysfunctional children. The results gave little support to the hypothesis that dysfunctional children make life less attractive and death more attractive for their pare…
Education for Death, or Death Becomes Less a Stranger
A death education course for large numbers of students (n = 300+) is described. Students were asked to write essay type responses to certain questions as part of a pilot project to develop a testing instrument. Results indicate that the death education course has an effect on improving conscious thinking about death, communication with others about death, etc. Students are most concerned about the pain associated with dying. The hypothesis that dysfunctioning or decrease in sexuality among the aged might be related to increased suicide is discussed in relation to Farber's theory of suicide.
