A re‐conceptualization of the person and the internal‐external dichotomy present in theories that explain occupation
When using theories to describe occupations, it is important to be aware of changes in thinking from other fields that affect some of the base assumptions present in those theories. Yerxa (1993) raised the concern that consciousness is required for engagement in occupation. This ties the study of occupation to the study of consciousness. The article examines the fundamental theory behind being a person rather than an object. In support of their argument they draw on Plato, Foucault and Descartes, as well as data gathered using an ethnographic approach in a village in Scotland.

This article is a description of an annual national camping program which was run in Sydney for families with children with AIDS. Staff selection and training, recruitment of the families, establishment of the camp situation and activities are discussed.
