This article reports the drinking stories of British civil service clerical workers based at a large civil service office complex located in Newcastle upon Tyne between 1968 and 1993. In Tampa, Florida, the threat of material destruction and social dislocation associated with planned highway expansion has ignited local resistance, which, in turn, brings together a loose grouping of social and political actors.
