Role Sharing Between Evaluators and Stakeholders in Practice
In the past three decades, program evaluation has sought to more fully engage stakeholders in the evaluative process. But little information has been gathered from stakeholders about how they share in evaluation tasks and whether role sharing leads to confusion or tensions between the evaluator and the stakeholders. A Return Potential Measure of Setting Norms for Aggression
This study tested a classroom‐level measure of norms based on J. Jackson's (1966) Return Potential Model. “Return potential” refers to the probability of approval of aggression in a given setting or group, and the return potential model allows quantification of different aspects of a setting's norms. Return potential measures were computed for unprovoked and provoked aggression. A pilot sample of 236 students in 11 classrooms and a main sample of…

Ethnicity and Effects of Age Gap between Unmarried Adolescent Mothers and Partners
This article examines ethnic differences in the effects of the age gap between unmarried adolescent mothers and their partners. Effects are identified bothfor unmarried adolescent mothers and their children who, between 1986 and 1988, had participated in programs for pregnant and parenting adolescents located in poor, resource-deprived communities across Illinois. Bicycle helmet counseling by pediatricians
A random sample of 1201 pediatricians who are members of the American Academy of Pediatrics completed questionnaires regarding bicycle injury prevention counseling. Of the 871 pediatricians in the sample who provide health supervision, 80% reported that they discuss bicycle helmet use with their patients at least once before the patient reaches the age of 12 years. Provision of bicycle helmet counseling did not vary significantly by pediatricians…
Parental smoking and the risk of childhood asthma
Data from two random population surveys are used to assess the relationship between parental smoking and the prevalence of asthma in children aged 0-17. Data from a 1977 Midwestern urbanized county indicate that, if mothers smoked, the prevalence of parent reported asthma increased from 5.0 per cent to 7.7 per cent (estimated relative risk of 1.5), and the prevalence of functionally impairing asthma increased from 1.1 per cent to 2.2 per cent (re…
