Association Between Smartphone Use and Depressive Symptoms Among Chinese Older Adults
This study was performed to clarify the relationship between smartphone usage and depression risk among older adults. We also examined smartphone use variations, population heterogeneity, and the mechanisms behind smartphone-related depression symptoms. A total of 10,997 older adults (mean age = 84.31 years) from a national cohort (Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity and Happy Family Study) in China were included. Smartphone use was measured b…
Development and validation of the Quality of Dying Index for adults aged 80 and older at the end of life
With population aging accelerating, ensuring high-quality end-of-life care for older adults is urgent. This study developed and validated the Quality of Dying Index (QODI) for adults aged 80-105 using data from 2,705 decedents in the 2022 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey. The 23-item QODI includes three subdomains: activities of daily living, cognitive functioning, and hospitalizations. Internal consistency was high (Cronbach's α ≥ 0…

The effect of a community-based group intervention on chronic disease self-management in a vulnerable population
Introduction Chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are predominantly related to modifiable health behaviors and account for 74% of global deaths at present. Behavior modification through self-management is a strategy to prevent NCDs. Chronic Disease Self-Management Programs (CDSMPs) have demonstrated improvements in health behaviors, health status, and use of healthcare. Objective We evaluated the effects of a 6-week CDSMP on self-efficacy, he…
The Association between Loneliness and Health Related Quality of Life (HR-QoL) among Community-Dwelling Older Citizens
Background : This study aimed to assess the association between loneliness and Health-Related Quality of Life (HR-QoL) among community-dwelling older citizens in five European countries. We characterize loneliness broadly from an emotional and social perspective. Methods : This cross-sectional study measured loneliness with the 6-item De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale and HR-QoL with the 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey. The association between l…
Evaluation Design of Effichronic
Background/rationale : The Chronic Disease Self-Management Programme (CDSMP) intervention is an evidence-based program that aims to encourage citizens with a chronic condition, as well as their caregivers, to better manage and maintain their own health. CDSMP intervention is expected to achieve greater health gains in citizens with a low socioeconomic position (SEP), because citizens with a low SEP have fewer opportunities to adhere to a healthy …
