  • The Ecological Footprint of Mediterranean cities

    Open Access•Wafaa Baabou, Nicole Grunewald et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Science & Policy•2017•Citada por: 10•Referências: 5

A top-down MRIO-based model for consistently tracking city EF across countries is proposed. • Valetta is the city with the highest per capita EF followed by Athens and Genoa. • Per capita EF in cities tends to be higher than the national EF average. • Food and Transportation are key EF drivers in cities from the south and the north rim of the Mediterranean, respectively. The Ecological Footprint is an accounting tool that has been used by resourc…

  • The Trade-off Between Income Inequality and Carbon Dioxide Emissions

    Open Access•Nicole Grunewald, Stephan Klasen et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2017•Citada por: 36•Referências: 2

Based on a substantially larger data set (in both regional and temporal coverage) than the\n\t\t\t\t existing literature, we investigate the theoretically ambiguous link between income inequality\n\t\t\t\t and per capita emissions using cross-country panel data. We find that the relationship depends\n\t\t\t\t on the level of income. Using an arguably superior group-fixed effects estimator, we show that\n\t\t\t\t for low and middle-income economie…

  • Physical limits to resource access and utilisation and their economic implications in Mediterranean economies

    Open Access•Alessandro Galli, Martin Halle et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Science & Policy•2015•Citada por: 3•Referências: 5

This paper applies Ecological Footprint accounting to Mediterranean countries to track ecological asset balances and investigate the long-term feasibility of fulfilling natural resource and service needs. Our findings are that the Mediterranean region currently uses approximately 2.5 times more natural resources and ecological services than their ecosystems can provide. We argue that when consumption exceeds local availability, countries either r…

  • Decomposing inequality in CO2 emissions

    Open Access•Nicole Grunewald, Michael Jakob et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2014•Citada por: 1•Referências: 3

Emission inequality across countries and the contribution of the energy mix and the sectoral composition of a country's energy use are of central importance to the climate debate. We analyze the evolution of inequality in global CO2 per-capita emissions using both historical data on energy-related CO2 emissions and future emission scenarios generated with the integrated assessment model REMIND. Within our sample of 90 countries the results indica…
