  • Hispanic Millennial Ideology

    Open Access•William Greene, Mi-Son Kim•ARTICLE•Hispanic Journal of Behavioral…•2019•Citada por: 1•Referências: 7

The goal of this study is to analyze the ideological positions of Hispanic college students in the U.S. Rio Grande Valley (RGV). Building on Feldman and Johnston’s work, where they argue that a unidimensional model of political ideology provides an incomplete basis for study, we employ two dimensions to account for domestic policy preference. The core of the study is a taxonomic analysis of a survey of RGV college students taking government cours…

  • When Measure Matters

M Shahe Emran, William Greene et al.•BOOK•2016

Biases from truncation caused by coresidency restriction have been a challenge for research on intergenerational mobility. Estimates of intergenerational schooling persistence from two data sets show that the intergenerational regression coefficient, the most widely used measure, is severely biased downward in coresident samples. But the bias in intergenerational correlation is much smaller, and is less sensitive to the coresidency rate. The pape…

  • Streetscape Features Related to Pedestrian Activity

Open Access•Reid Ewing, Amir Hajrasouliha et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Planning Education and…•2015•Citada por: 18•Referências: 2

By measuring twenty streetscape features and numerous other variables for 588 blocks in New York City, we were able to identify variables that explain pedestrian traffic volumes. We found significant positive correlations between three out of twenty streetscape features with pedestrian counts after controlling for density and other built environmental variables. The significant streetscape features are the proportion of windows on the street, the…

  • Varying influences of the built environment on household travel in 15 diverse regions of the United States

    Open Access•Reid Ewing, Guang Tian et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2015•Citada por: 16•Referências: 21

This study pools household travel and built environment data from 15 diverse US regions to produce travel models with more external validity than any to date. It uses a large number of consistently defined built environmental variables to predict five household travel outcomes – car trips, walk trips, bike trips, transit trips and vehicle miles travelled (VMT). It employs multilevel modelling to account for the dependence of households in the sam…

  • Predicting Transportation Outcomes for Leed Projects

Open Access•Reid Ewing, Michael J Greenwald et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Planning Education and…•2013•Citada por: 3•Referências: 2

The article first estimates models of mode choice and average trip length for 239 diverse mixed-use developments in six diverse regions. It then applies these models to twelve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) pilot projects to predict approximate vehicle miles of travel (VMT) per person trip. Finally, it compares LEED-ND values to regional average values from the National Household Travel Survey…

  • Fixed Effects Vector Decomposition

    Open Access•William Greene, William H Greene•ARTICLE•Political Analysis•2011•Citada por: 31•Referências: 10

Plümper and Troeger (2007) propose a three-step procedure for the estimation of a fixed effects (FE) model that, it is claimed, “provides the most reliable estimates under a wide variety of specifications common to real world data.” Their fixed effects vector decomposition (FEVD) estimator is startlingly simple, involving three simple steps, each requiring nothing more than ordinary least squares (OLS). Large gains in efficiency are claimed for c…

  • Testing hypotheses about interaction terms in nonlinear models

    Open Access•William Greene, William H Greene•ARTICLE•Economics Letters•2010

  • Application of Panel Data Models in Benchmarking Analysis of the Electricity Distribution Sector

Open Access•Mehdi Farsi, Massimo Filippini et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Public and Cooperative…•2006•Referências: 3

en fin d'article; Zusammenfassung am Ende des Artikels; resumen al fin del artículo. : This paper explores the application of several panel data models in measuring productive efficiency of the electricity distribution sector. Stochastic Frontier Analysis has been used to estimate the cost-efficiency of 59 distribution utilities operating over a nine-year period in Switzerland. The estimated coefficients and inefficiency scores are compared acros…

  • Reconsidering heterogeneity in panel data estimators of the stochastic frontier model

    Open Access•William Greene, William H Greene•ARTICLE•Journal of Econometrics•2005

  • School Location and Student Travel Analysis of Factors Affecting Mode Choice

Open Access•Reid Ewing, William Schroeer et al.•ARTICLE•Transportation Research Record…•2004

This study is the first to examine the relationship between mode of travel to school and the full range of factors that might affect mode choice. With data from Gainesville, Florida, a multinomial logit model was estimated to explain school mode choice for a sample of K-12 students. Students with shorter walk or bike times to school proved significantly more likely to walk or bike. If confirmed through subsequent research, this finding argues for…

  • Fixed Effects and Bias Due to the Incidental Parameters Problem in the Tobit Model

    William Greene, William H Greene•ARTICLE•Econometric Reviews•2004

The maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) in nonlinear panel data models with fixed effects is widely understood (with a few exceptions) to be biased and inconsistent when T, the length of the panel, is small and fixed. However, there is surprisingly little theoretical or empirical evidence on the behavior of the estimator on which to base this conclusion. The received studies have focused almost exclusively on coefficient estimation in two binary c…

  • The behaviour of the maximum likelihood estimator of limited dependent variable models in the presence of fixed effects

    Open Access•William Greene, William H Greene•ARTICLE•The Econometrics Journal•2004

The nonlinear fixed‐effects model has two shortcomings, one practical and one methodological. The practical obstacle relates to the difficulty of computing the MLE of the coefficients of non‐linear models with possibly thousands of dummy variable coefficients. In fact, in many models of interest to practitioners, computing the MLE of the parameters of fixed effects model is feasible even in panels with very large numbers of groups. The result, th…
