Self-Reported Oral Health Among Elderly Immigrants Residing in Norway
Elderly immigrants in Norway reported poor oral health, tooth loss, and unhealthy dietary and hygiene habits, highlighting the need for targeted interventions
Orthodontic Status and Association with Oral-Health-Related Quality of Life—A Study of 16-Year-Old Norwegians with a Cleft Lip and Palate
The study revealed an association between severe cleft diagnosis, missing teeth, misaligned teeth, negative overjet, and poor OHRQoL, but a statistically significant association was found only between OHRQoL and poor intermaxillary sagittal relations (unfavorable profile). To improve OHRQoL among patients with clefts, there is a need for an individual follow-up and prioritization of oral healthcare
Caries experience and oral health related quality of life in a cohort of Ugandan HIV-1 exposed uninfected children compared with a matched cohort of HIV unexposed uninfected children
The prevalence of untreated caries in primary teeth and quality of life impacts was high in this study population. HIV-1 exposed uninfected children were not more likely than HUU children to experience dental caries or have impaired oral health related quality of life. Given the global expansion of the HEU child population, the present findings indicating no adverse effect of pre- and post-natal HIV-1 exposure on caries in deciduous teeth are rea…
Why are they reluctant to report? A study of the barriers to reporting to child welfare services among public dental healthcare personnel
This study is a national cross-sectional survey, conducted in November 2014, of 366 dental hygienists and dentists who had suspected maltreatment but did not report it to Norwegian Child Welfare Services (CWS). The aims of the present paper are to identify the reasons why public dental healthcare professionals are reluctant to report suspected child maltreatment to CWS and to determine whether there are differences in the identified barriers acco…
Socio-cognitive correlates of intention to use Toombak
The present study suggested that the prevalence of Toombak use among Sudanese secondary school students is low and that male and older students are more frequent users. Students' decision to use Toombak was based upon past experience with Toombak use and the social image attached to its use. Easy access to Toombak and encouragement from friends and classmates were among the factors which support intention to use Toombak but only in the unadjusted…
HIV and Aids related knowledge, sources of information, and reported need for further education among dental students in Sudan- a cross sectional study
Students attending privately funded schools were more knowledgeable about various HIV related issues than students from publicly funded schools. About half of the students investigated had received HIV/AIDS information from various sources and reported need for further education. This suggests that students are not adequately prepared for treating patients with HIV infection and AIDS and that the dental school curriculum needs improvements. Diffe…
Boys are more stunted than girls in Sub-Saharan Africa
Predictors of poor anthropometric status among children under 2 years of age in rural Uganda
Injury morbidity in an urban and a rural area in Tanzania
The patterns of injury differ in urban and rural areas partly as a reflection of livelihoods and infrastructure. Rural residents are at a higher overall injury risk than urban residents. This may be important in the development of injury prevention strategies
Mothers' education but not fathers' education, household assets or land ownership is the best predictor of child health inequalities in rural Uganda
BACKGROUND: Health and nutrition inequality is a result of a complex web of factors that include socio-economic inequalities. Various socio-economic indicators exist however some do not accurately predict inequalities in children. Others are not intervention feasible. OBJECTIVE: To examine the association of four socio-economic indicators namely: mothers' education, fathers' education, household asset index, and land ownership with growth stuntin…
Validity of Cognitive Predictors of Adolescent Sugar Snack Consumption
When applied to consumption of sugared snacks among Ugandan adolescents, the TPB shows satisfactory validity
The Use of the Theory of Planned Behavior to Explore Beliefs About Sugar Restriction
Support was provided for the TPB constructs to predict intended sugar restriction. Beliefs distinguishing intenders from nonintenders represent targets for interventions aimed at maintaining a low-level sugar intake among students in Tanzania
Food habits of young Swedish and Norwegian vegetarians and omnivores
Objective: To determine the prevalence of vegetarianism and compare food habits among vegetarian and omnivorous adolescents in Sweden and Norway. Design: Cross-sectional study by questionnaire in Sweden and Norway to gather information about food habits. Setting: The municipalities of Umeå and Stockholm in Sweden, and Bergen in Norway. Subjects: In total 2041 ninth-grade students (578 from Umeå, 504 from Stockholm and 959 from Bergen), mean age 1…
