  • [Retracted] Can a Conservation Workshop Improve Knowledge, Perception, and Behavior of Children Toward Felids in Mexico

    Martha M Zarco-González, Nathalia M Castillo-Huitrón et al.•ARTICLE•Society and Animals•2024•Referências: 9

Analysis of people’s perceptions toward wildlife is fundamental in conservation planning. Also fundamental is dissemination of information about wildlife ecology. In Mexico, conservation of carnivores, who frequently come into conflict with human communities, is of utmost importance. We designed a workshop about the ecological aspects of pumas and jaguars; 232 children in elementary schools in rural, semiurban, and urban zones of Central Mexico p…

  • Human–black bear interactions in Northern Mexico

    M Nuñez-Torres, Martha M Zarco-González et al.•ARTICLE•Human Dimensions of Wildlife•2020

In Mexico, black bear (Ursus americanus) is an endangered species. Human invasion of its habitat has provoked a change in its foraging behavior. Human–black bear interactions (HBIs) occur in a variety of locations and create conflict. Spatial information can predict the probabilities of interaction and identify environmental variables. We implemented ecological niche models to identified areas with high probability of HBI. Results indicated that …
