  • Fire Along the Street of the Dead

Open Access•Karen Arreola Romero, A Goguitchaichvili et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2025

Teotihuacan, one of the most significant urban and ceremonial centers of ancient Mesoamerica, was abruptly abandoned in the mid-1st millennium AD. The cause and timing of its collapse—commonly placed between 600 and 650 AD—remain major questions in Mesoamerican archaeology. In this study, we present a new archaeomagnetic investigation of six burned structures distributed along the Street of the Dead, including sites at the Square of the Moon, the…

  • Archaeomagnetic Insights into Pre-Hispanic Mayan Lime Production

Open Access•Jocelyne Martínez Landín, A Goguitchaichvili et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2025

The Yucatán Peninsula, a key region of the ancient Maya civilization, has long presented challenges in establishing absolute chronological frameworks for its cultural practices. While the central regions of Mesoamerica have been extensively studied, the southern areas, including the Yucatán, remain underexplored. Limekilns, integral to lime production in pre-Hispanic Maya society, are well suited for archaeomagnetic studies due to the high temper…

  • Full‐Vector Archaeomagnetic Dating of a Medieval Limekiln at Pinilla Del Valle Site (Madrid, Spain)

    Open Access•Ángel Carrancho, A Goguitchaichvili et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2017•Citada por: 2•Referências: 50

Archaeomagnetic dating based on the full geomagnetic field vector was carried out on a limekiln excavated at Pinilla del Valle archaeological site (Madrid, Spain). The limekiln tradition in this area is largely documented by historical sources for recent centuries but the date of the studied kiln's last use was unknown. The combination of mean archaeomagnetic directional and absolute archaeointensity results shows that the kiln was last used betw…

  • Combined archaeomagnetic and thermoluminescence study of a brick kiln excavated at Fontanetto Po (Vercelli, Northern Italy)

Open Access•Evdokia Tema, Fulvio Fantino et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2012•Citada por: 13•Referências: 3

  • The Archaeointensity of the Earth's Magnetic Field Retrieved From Pampean Ceramics (South America)

    Open Access•A Goguitchaichvili, D Loponte et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2012•Citada por: 1•Referências: 20

Absolute intensity determinations using the Coe variant of the Thellier method have been carried out on some selected pottery fragments collected in the wetlands of the lower Paraná (Pampean region, Argentina) in order to construct the first archaeointensity master curve for South America. Associated radiometric ages range between 1640 ± 70 and 730 ± 70 bp . Twenty‐one samples (five fragments) out of 46 studied (eight fragments) provided successf…

  • New paleomagnetic data from the hominin bearing Dmanisi paleo-anthropologic site (southern Georgia, Caucasus)

    Open Access•M Calvo-Rathert, A Goguitchaichvili et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2008

The Dmanisi site has yielded human remains and lithic industry associated with Late Pliocene–early Pleistocene fauna. The site is composed of volcanogenic sediments overlying basaltic lava flows. The lithostratigraphic sequence comprises two basic depositional units: Unit A, overlying the basalt flows, and Unit B on top. A paleomagnetic and rock-magnetic study has been carried out on 106 specimens from Units A and B and the uppermost basalt flow.…
