Archaeological data from the Bronze Age and Pre-Roman Iron Age reveal significant cultural changes in the East Baltic Region, often linked to influences from other parts of Europe. Whether immigration played a major role in these transformations, remains under debate. This paper presents the first strontium isotope measurements (87Sr/86Sr) from 25 human samples (cremations) recovered at the Ėgliškiai barrow cemetery in western Lithuania. The site…
Archaeology of Modern Conflict and Heritage Legislation in Lithuania during Thirty Years of Restored Independence
After the Lithuanian National Revival in 1988 and the restoration of independence in 1990, the public on their own initiative searched for the remains of fallen anti-Soviet Lithuanian partisans (1944-1953), excavating the burial sites of partisan remains, their bunkers and dugouts. Such excavations prompted the need to establish regulations and procedures for the exhumation and transfer of the remains of victims of 20th-century conflicts and occu…

Straipsnyje analizuojama vėlyvojo žalvario ir ankstyvojo geležies amžiaus laidosena dabartinės Šiaurės vakarų Lietuvos dalyje, daugiausia dėmesio teikiant pilkapių ir individualių kapų įrengimui bei įkapėms. Per daugiau nei šimtmetį vykdomus kasinėjimus atrasta 19 laidojimo vietų, kuriose žinomi 182 kapai (169 degintiniai, 13 griautinių kapų). Laidojimo paminklų duomenys – kapų įrengimai, kapų vieta laidojimo paminkle ir įkapės, panaudoti interpr…

Ankstyviausi žirgų palaikai laidojimo objektuose Lietuvoje
Straipsnyje nagrinėjama žirgo laidojimo papročio formavimosi ankstyvuoju metalų laikotarpiu dabartinėje Lietuvos teritorijoje pradžia. Pristatomi surinkti duomenys apie ankstyviausius žirgų palaikus žmonių laidojimo vietose. Šių gyvūnų kaulų iki šiol rasta tik vakarinėje Lietuvos dalyje – Kurmaičių, Kvecių ir Ėgliškių pilkapynuose, įrengtuose nedidelėje teritorijoje Akmenos, Tenžės ir Danės upių pakrantėse. Pilkapiuose, kuriuose vyrauja degintini…
