  • Managing down’

Open Access•Selin Siviş, Joshua Banks et al.•ARTICLE•European Societies•2026

This qualitative study investigates how care homes in South-West England managed and responded to the everyday challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. While many studies explore the impact of the pandemic on care home staff, residents and families, limited research addresses care homes’ experiences with filtering top-down rules and guidelines during ‘uncertain times’. Sara Bybee, Katherine Supiano et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Nursing Education•2022

Background: Peer assessment rubrics (PARs) facilitate equitable distribution of responsibility among group members and help educators assess learners' contributions. • Creating a National Standard for Prelicensure Clinical Evaluation in Nursing

Rebecca Wilson, Rebecca D Wilson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Nursing Education•2021

Background: Measuring clinical outcomes in prelicensure students is desired by key stakeholders but is fraught with challenges. There are currently no standardized, psychometrically validated clinical-outcome measures available for prelicensure nursing programs, requiring each program to design its own measures. Method: We conducted a review of the potential antecedents of this gap, as well as models for standardized clinical outcome measures and…

  • Thinking differently – Students’ cognitive processes when answering two different formats of written question

    Open Access•Amir H Sam, Rebecca Wilson et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Teacher•2021

BACKGROUND: Single-best answer questions (SBAQs) are common but are susceptible to cueing. Very short answer questions (VSAQs) could be an alternative, and we sought to determine if students' cognitive processes varied across question types and whether students with different performance levels used different methods for answering questions. METHODS: We undertook a 'think aloud' study, interviewing 21 final year medical students at five UK medica…

  • Playful Lenses

Open Access•Rebecca Wilson, Jon Saklofske et al.•ARTICLE•KULA knowledge creation…•2019

In academic contexts, digital games are often studied as texts or are used as pedagogical tools to teach basic concepts in early education situations. Less usefully, their systems and economies are often co-opted and decontextualized in short-sighted attempts to “gamify” various aspects of learning or training. However, given that games are highly controlled, conditional, choice-and-consequence-based, problem-solving environments in which players…

  • Variations of health check attendance in later life

Open Access•Rebecca Wilson, Diana Kuh et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

A number of predisposing, enabling and need factors from childhood and adulthood were found to be associated with health check attendance at age 68, demonstrating the relevance of applying a life course perspective to Andersen's model in investigating health check attendance in later life. Health related factors were found to be stronger correlates of health check attendance than socioeconomic factors

We explore how the pupils responded to the process, developing their interpretations of a pre-twentieth century text wi…
