Impact Estimation Of Disasters
This paper aims to estimate the global aggregate of disaster impacts during 1960 to 2007 using Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) methodology. The authors selected 184 major disasters in terms of the size of economic damages, based on the data available from the International Emergency Disasters and MunichRe (NatCat) databases for natural catastrophes. They estimate the losses and total impacts including the higher-order effects of these disasters us…
Modeling spatial economic impacts of an earthquake
Economic modeling issues for measuring damages and losses from disasters and their impacts are complex. The questions surrounding the potential economic effects of a disaster have been studied and discussed in various aspects. Input‐output analysis has been employed in many studies to measure and evaluate the economic impacts of disasters, mainly because of the ability to reflect the structure of regional economy in great detail. Whereas they pro…
Feedback loops analysis of Japanese interregional trade, 1980-85-90
This paper examines the hierarchy of intra‐ and inter‐regional trade flows within the Japanese economy over the period 1980–85–90. The methodology provides an opportunity to explore links between feedback loops analysis and the extraction of a hierarchy of flows using ideas from superposition principles. The resulting analysis of trade feedbacks may be seen to reflect the economic phenomena of horizontal and vertical trade specifications. While t…
