The illusion of flexibility and the limits of teacher autonomy in the Ecuadorian curriculum
Introduction Curriculum reforms in Latin America emphasize flexibility, contextualization, and teacher autonomy. In Ecuador, the 2016 curriculum operationalizes these through Skills with Performance Criteria (PC). Methods An analytical–interpretive approach was applied, examining the national curriculum alongside literature on educational governance and critical pedagogy. Results The PC-based structure, with its criteria and indicators, organizes…
The educational mismatch between the 1998 and 2008 constitutions and the curricular reform in Ecuador
Introduction The constitutional reforms adopted in Ecuador between 1998 and 2008 transformed the legal status of education, redefining it as a fundamental human right and strengthening the role of the State in educational governance. In this context, education acquired a central role within national development strategies. Methods This study employed a qualitative design based on documentary analysis of constitutional texts, educational laws, cur…
From simulation to reality
Bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world implementation remains a critical challenge in the teaching of control systems and robotics. This paper presents an education method using ARCHIE, a low-cost, open-source articulated robot with six degrees of freedom, as an educational platform designed to enhance students’ understanding of control theory through practical learning. The study combines simulation (using MATLAB’s Simscape…
Analyzing barriers to the effective implementation of technological tools in inclusive education
Introduction Digital accessibility and inclusive pedagogy are central to achieving equitable education systems worldwide. Yet, the integration of technological tools for students with disabilities remains inconsistent, often limited to fragmented initiatives without long-term institutional or policy support. Understanding the structural barriers that constrain digital inclusion is crucial for transforming technology into an enabler of educational…
Can artificial intelligence replace journalists? A theoretical approach
In the digital age, journalism is facing significant transformations due to the impact of artificial intelligence, a technology that optimizes processes, but also poses ethical and technical dilemmas. This study addresses whether AI can replace journalists or whether it should be considered as a complementary tool that enhances their capabilities. The problem lies in the increasing automation of journalistic tasks and its impact on the quality, e…
Implementation of Itinerant Classrooms as an Educational Strategy for Pedagogical Knowledge Recovery in Basic Education Students
The global COVID-19 pandemic resulted in academic setbacks due to the loss of learning, the effects of which began to become evident during the progressive return to in-person classes, highlighting the need to work on re-education processes. This study examines the effectiveness of itinerant classrooms in facilitating learning recovery among Basic Education students following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. A pedagogical support intervention…
Psychological and sociodemographic factors associated with hypoactive sexual desire in Ecuadorian women
These results suggest that women who are older, mothers, or have higher levels of erotophobia are more likely to experience hypoactive sexual desire. In contrast, higher levels of erotophilia and homophobia were inversely related to hypoactive sexual desire. This contributes to a deeper understanding of how different personal and sexual attitudes influence sexual desire in Ecuadorian women
Influence of Hand Tracking in Immersive Virtual Reality for Memory Assessment
Few works analyze the parameters inherent to immersive virtual reality (IVR) in applications for memory evaluation. Specifically, hand tracking adds to the immersion of the system, placing the user in the first person with full awareness of the position of their hands. Thus, this work addresses the influence of hand tracking in memory assessment with IVR systems. For this, an application based on activities of daily living was developed, where th…
The cupboard task
Virtual Reality (VR) has the capacity to be used in cognitive rehabilitation interventions for diagnostic and training purposes. This technology allows the development of proposals that traditionally have been only implemented using physical elements that imply greater resources and a lesser degree of automation. This work presents an immersive virtual reality (IVR) application (the Cupboard task) for the evaluation of memory in a more ecological…
