Exploring the effects of combined Nordic and reverse Nordic hamstring exercises on physical fitness in prepubertal male soccer players
The findings showed moderate group-by-time interactions for all fitness measures [effect size (d) = 0.62-1.16]. Post hoc analyses revealed small-to-moderate improvements in the eccentric training group across all performance measures (d = 0.31-1.18), while no significant changes were observed in the control group for any fitness measure. In conclusion, our findings support the effectiveness, practicality, and safety (no injuries reported) of the …

Forensic botany, particularly bryophyte analysis, is a potentially important but underutilized tool in criminal investigations. Bryophytes, including mosses, liverworts, and hornworts, have the potential to offer crucial evidence in establishing crime scene timelines and possible connections between suspects, victims, and the scene of the crime. In this case study, a common moss, Fissidens taxifolius , played a pivotal role in revealing the durat…
Implementation of a Community-Based Mind–Body (Tae-Bo) Physical Activity Programme on Health-Related Physical Fitness in Rural Black Overweight and Obese Women with Manifest Risk Factors for Multimorb…
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death globally, particularly impacting low- and middle-income countries and rural dwellers. Therefore, this programme aimed to investigate if a community-based mind-body PA programme implemented in a low-resource setting could improve health-related physical fitness outcomes. Black overweight or obese adult women (25 ± 4.7 years) with a body mass index (BMI) > 25 kg·m -2 recruited from a r…
The effects of backward vs. forward running training on measures of physical fitness in young female handball players
Within-group analysis indicated significant, small-to-large improvements in all performance tests (effect size [ g ] = 0.36 to 1.80), except 5-m forward sprint-time in the BR group and 5- and 10-m forward sprint-time in the FR group. However, the CG significantly decreased forward sprint performance over 10-m and 20-m ( g = 0.28 to 0.50) with no changes in the other fitness parameters. No significant differences in the amount of change scores bet…
Effects of active exergames training on physical functional performance in older females (Efectos del entrenamiento de exergames activos sobre el rendimiento físico funcional en mujeres mayores)
Objective: To analyze the effects of 8 weeks of an active exergames training program on walking speed, static balance, timed up-and-go test, and sit-to-stand performance in older females. Methods: Two groups of participants were formed by block-design randomization as follows: (i) control group (n=12; age, 74.17.9 years); (ii) 8 week exergames training group (n=13; age, 75.69.1 years). Training was undertaken three times per week, including athle…
Internal and External Training Load in Under-19 versus Professional Soccer Players during the In-Season Period
This study aimed to compare the training load of a professional under-19 soccer team (U-19) to that of an elite adult team (EAT), from the same club, during the in-season period. Thirty-nine healthy soccer players were involved (EAT [n = 20]; U-19 [n = 19]) in the study which spanned four weeks. Training load (TL) was monitored as external TL, using a global positioning system (GPS), and internal TL, using a rating of perceived exertion (RPE). TL…
