I am convinced that Professor Mamalakis' paper presents a framework which is potentially useful for the social analysis of developed as well as developing societies. The framework generates models. Models cannot, of course, be true or false, but predictions derived from their applications to concrete societal situations can be borne out to a greater or lesser extent.
