Psychological Precursors of Disorders
While still in medical school at The Johns Hopkins University, participants in the Precursors Study, a longitudinal study of the precursors of coronary artery disease and other disorders, were given the Rorschach test along with other psychological and physical tests. In the present study, we looked at a cohort of 41 participants who, 8 to 24 years after having finished medical school, could be classified into five disorder groups: coronary, hype…
Health Care Trends and Holding the Line on Costs
The increasing reliance on third party payment of health care costs has resulted in people assuming less personal financial responsibility for their own health care. Lessened personal financial responsibility has resulted in greater use of the Health Care System and so has led to greater costs for health care. This increased cost has focused attention on cost control and implementation of measures designed to control costs. The cost control measu…
Conjoint Analysis vs Preference Analysis
Conjoint and Preference Analyses were used in an attempt to identify a potential new product's optimal configuration. From each analysis, the same conclusions were drawn, that is, there was no analytic advantage of one analysis over the other. Since the Preference Analysis was more simple and less costly to use, this procedure seems more desirable to use in optimizing a new product's design
Brand Choice Modeling
Using a Fishbein-type approach, the authors developed a Brand Choice Model. Conceptually very simple, this model identifies each consumer's unique determinants of brand choice. By simulating changes in beliefs about a brand, it is possible to identify that brand's optimal positioning, i.e., a perceptual positioning that will maximize the brand's share of the market. As a result of having carefully selected attributes for inclusion in the model, t…
Precursors of Premature Disease and Death
Participants in the Precursors Study affected with any of six disorders were compared with their matched, but healthy, control counterparts on 4 Rorschach and 10 Figure-drawing factors. Similar comparisons were made for the psychological (suicide, mental illness, and emotional disturbance) and somatic (essential hypertension, coronary occlusion, and malignant tumor) subsets of the affected participants and for those affected by each of the six in…
