  • Examining teachers' judgment of students' 21 st century skills and academic and behavioral outcomes

Open Access•Suzanne Woods‐Groves, Taehoon Choi et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology in the Schools•2021

In this study we examined the relationship of students' 21st century skills with their academic and behavioral outcomes. We investigated K‐12 teachers' ( n = 150) judgment of students' ( n = 3,108) use of 21st century skills (i.e., persistence, curiosity, affect, and cognition behaviors) via a Likert‐type rating scale. We compared teachers' ratings with students' academic and behavioral outcomes in a southeastern school district. We used Hierarch…

  • The Human Behavior Rating Scale–Brief

    Open Access•Suzanne Woods‐Groves, Suzanne Woods-Groves•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2015

Currently there is a call for brief concise measurements to appraise relevant 21st century college readiness skills in K-12 learners. This study employed K-12 teachers' ratings for over 3,000 students for an existing 91-item rating scale, the Human Behavior Rating Scale, that measured the 21st century skills of persistence, curiosity, externalizing affect, internalizing affect, and cognition. Teachers' ratings for K-12 learners were used to devel…

  • Exploratory Factor Analysis of the Human Behavior Rating Scale

    Open Access•Suzanne Woods‐Groves, Suzanne Woods-Groves et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2011

The construct validity of Eaves' Human Behavior Rating Scale (HBRS) was investigated. The HBRS is a scale with 91 Likert-type items designed to measure five factors: arousal (persistence and curiosity), affect (externalizing and internalizing), and cognition. Forty-four teachers of Grades 6, 7, and 8 from two low socioeconomic and rural southern counties completed the HBRS for 320 of their students. Three parcels were submitted for analysis for e…

  • Internal Consistency of the Human Behavior Rating Scale

    Open Access•Suzanne Woods‐Groves, Suzanne Woods-Groves et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2009

The internal consistency of the Human Behavior Rating Scale (HBRS) was investigated. The 91-item Likert-type scale is designed to measure five dimensions: persistence, curiosity, externalizing affect, internalizing affect, and cognition. It is used as a research tool to investigate the tenets of Eaves' 1993 integrated theory of human behavior. Three separate sampling plans were employed. Teachers and nonteachers completed Human Behavior Rating Sc…

  • Content Validity of the Visual Similes Test II

    Open Access•Suzanne Woods‐Groves, Suzanne Woods-Groves et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2007

This study examined the content validity of the Visual Similes Test II, designed to measure affective and cognitive arousal in individuals 5 to 21 years of age. The 54 participants were asked to rate the affective and cognitive content of unoccluded stimuli from the Visual Similes Test II. The participants, whose mean age was 27.0 yr. (SD=8.6), included 1 (2%) man and 53 (98%) women who were enrolled in undergraduate and graduate special educatio…
