Variations in Economic Growth and Banking Developments in the United States From 1835 to 1885
Taken as a whole the half century from 1835 to 1885 was a periodof substantial economic growth in the United States. The population increased nearly fourfold, or at an annual rate in the neighborhood of 21⁄2 to 21⁄2 per cent per year. His Charts 3 and 4 suggest that for the 12-year period, I9I9-30, there was a considerable correlation…

The views produced by a prism depend on the way it is turned and whether it is in motion or perfectly still. Users of the concept of liquidity-preference, like a person with a prism in his hand, may unconsciously turn it around and produce confused and changing images when they are seeking precision and clarity. This kind of effect appears to…

The Monetary Theory of Deficit Spending
THE effect of fiscal operations of government, particularly of the federal government, upon the national income stream has been the focal point of a large part of economic theory in recent years. This emphasis has been expressed in three forms: (i) logical analyses, frequently using the symbolism of mathematics, of relationships between government expenditures -particularly expenditures in excess of taxation or in excess of cash receipts other th…
