In post-apartheid South Africa, landscape morphologies give clues to how scholars can read landscapes as historically layered, ongoing more-than-human projects. Property Relations beyond the Human
What happens to our understanding of property regimes when they are analyzed through the case of a translocated colonial fish? The British introduction of trout to South Africa led to enclosures through restrictions on access to trout streams, but also through comparisons with British landscapes 'at home'. Trout were introduced to South Africa in the late nineteenth century with colonial fanfare, but since the 1990s, post-apartheid legislation has declared trout alien and sought to reduce their numbers. The article explores the contested natures of the Dukuduku forest bordering the iSimangalison Wetland Park in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, through the analytics of translation.
