Based on three case studies of living forms coexisting in the Atacama Desert, we use a perspective of feminist care to analyze how humans and non-humans (cells) live, adapt or transform in the face of the effects of extractivism in northern Chile. The protection of the mountain ecosystems of the Southern Central Andes
In the Atacama Desert highlands, Aymara communities have practised herding since pre-Hispanic times. Currently, large areas of the mountainsâ ecosystems are under official protection. This situation has created tensions between Aymara herding practices and official conservation policies.
