  • The culinary medicine elective “Prospective Physicians For Fibre” improves fibre intake and nutrition knowledge in German medical students

Open Access•Frieda Stübing, Julian Herter et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Medical Education•2026

  • Do Patients with Complaints Attributed to Chemicals in the Environment Trust in Biomonitoring as a Valid Diagnostic Tool? A Prospective, Observational Study from a German University Outpatient Clinic

Open Access•Claudia Schultz, Catharina Sadaghiani et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025

Biomonitoring often yields normal results in patients who report environmental sensitivities, such as in multiple chemical sensitivity. This study examined whether biomonitoring results influence disease attribution and perception. Patients over 18 presenting for the first time to the University Environmental Medicine Outpatient Clinic in Freiburg with suspected complaints linked to heavy metals, wood preservatives, pesticides, solvents, or mold …

  • Antiproliferative and immunomodulative potential of Citrullus colocynthis and its bioactive compounds in human lymphocytes and lung cells

Open Access•Carina Stein, Johanna Voigts et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2024

In our study we could confirm the immunmodulating effect of C. colocynthis and cucurbitacins B, E and E-glucopyranoside in vitro by suppression of different pathways of inflammation and T cell proliferation. Activity in a lung cell model using a virus-like stimulation shows promise for further research regarding cucurbitacins in airway diseases

  • Plasma Leptin and Adiponectin after a 4-Week Vegan Diet

Open Access•Ann‐Kathrin Lederer, Maximilian Andreas Storz et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Adiponectin and leptin are important mediators of metabolic homeostasis. The actions of these adipokines extend beyond adipocytes and include systemic modulation of lipid and glucose metabolism, nutrient flux, and the immune response to changes in nutrition. Herein, we hypothesized that short-term intervention with a vegan diet might result in an improvement of plasma concentrations of adiponectin and leptin and the leptin/adiponectin ratio. We i…

  • Spending Time in the Forest or the Field

    Open Access•Katja Oomen-Welke, Evelyn Schlachter et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Research suggests that stays in a forest promote relaxation and reduce stress compared to spending time in a city. The aim of this study was to compare stays in a forest with another natural environment, a cultivated field. Healthy, highly sensitive persons (HSP, SV12 score > 18) aged between 18 and 70 years spent one hour in the forest and in the field at intervals of one week. The primary outcome was measured using the Change in Subjective Self…

  • A Vegan Diet Is Associated with a Significant Reduction in Dietary Acid Load

Open Access•Alexander Müller, Amy Marisa Zimmermann-Klemd et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

The composition of diet strongly affects acid-base homeostasis. Western diets abundant in acidogenic foods (meat and cheese) and deficient in alkalizing foods (fruits and vegetables) increase dietary acid load (DAL). A high DAL has been associated with numerous health repercussions, including cardiovascular disease and type-2-diabetes. Plant-based diets have been associated with a lower DAL; however, the number of trials exploring this associatio…

  • Immunomodulatory effects of some Namibian plants traditionally used for treating inflammatory diseases

Open Access•C I Du Preez, Iwanette du Preez et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2020

  • Influence of traditionally used Nepalese plants on wound healing and immunological properties using primary human cells in vitro

Open Access•Amy Marisa Zimmermann-Klemd, Viktoria Konradi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2019

  • Constituents from oak bark (Quercus robur L.) inhibit degranulation and allergic mediator release from basophils and mast cells in vitro

Open Access•Peter Lorenz, Miriam Heinrich et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2016

  • Differential cytotoxic properties of Helleborus niger L. on tumour and immunocompetent cells

    Open Access•Michael Schink, Manuel Garcia-Käufer et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2015

  • Immunosuppressive activity of an aqueous Viola tricolor herbal extract

Open Access•Roland Hellinger, Johannes Koehbach et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2014

  • Traditionally used Veronica officinalis inhibits proinflammatory mediators via the NF-κB signalling pathway in a human lung cell line

    Open Access•Carsten Gründemann, Manuel Garcia-Käufer et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2013

  • An aqueous birch leaf extract of Betula pendula inhibits the growth and cell division of inflammatory lymphocytes

Open Access•Carsten Gründemann, Christian W Gruber et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2011

  • Effectiveness of subcutaneous injections of a cartilage preparation in osteoarthritis of the knee—A randomized, placebo controlled phase II study

Open Access•Matthew Lamont, Roman Huber et al.•ARTICLE•Complementary Therapies in Medicine•2010

For the primary outcome parameter pain AG5 was not superior to placebo after 4 weeks of treatment but the equal reduction of pain in combination with higher reduction of pain medication suggests an effect of the preparation. The long term effect of AG5 on sparing pain medication should be further investigated.
