This article revisits the idea of parallelism between the two semiotic planes – expression and content – focusing on two seemingly contradictory analogies found in the structural literature, namely expression figuræ : sign expressions :: content figuræ : sign contents and phonic features : phonemes :: semantic features : signifieds.
