This article charts the collection history of the only surviving precolumbian cotton reliquary (cemí) from the Dominican Republic, establishing its provenance from the mid-nineteenth century through a previously unpublished manuscript written by the collector, Rodolfo Domingo Cambiaso Sosa, and using archival documents in Italy. L’article analyse les changements qui ont eu lieu récemment dans deux sites sacrés de l’Ouganda – Mubende et Kasubi – où les pratiques religieuses adressées aux différentes présences spirituelles se confrontent aujourd’hui avec la nouvelle conception du patrimoine promue par l’Unesco.
