Perception of Fatherhood and Self-Esteem Among Incarcerated Fathers After Participation in an Adlerian Parenting Training
Many incarcerated individuals experience harm to their identity as fathers upon entry to prison, and a decrease in their self-esteem. Drawing on the literature on person-culture fit, we investigated how culture (assessed as national-level familism), personality (tapped by attachment styles) and their interactions predicted social network characteristics in 21 nations/areas ( N = 2977). In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the universal chaos created by it, this study explores the role of sense of coherence (Soc, Antonovsky, 1979) and how it enables coping with a stressful situation and staying well. SOC is a generalized orientation which allows one to perceive the world as comprehensible, manageable, and meaningful.
