Reconstruction of geodynamic processes on the Vistula riverbank in medieval Toruń (Poland)
During roadworks on Bulwar Filadelfijski in Toruń, the foundations of a Benedictine monastery and the Holy Spirit Church were uncovered. Geoarchaeological research analyzed fluvial, denudational, and anthropogenic layers in the Vistula riverbank. Early Medieval hoard from Gąski near Inowrocław
The bullion hoard was recovered using a detector tool from the multicultural site at Gąski, Inowrocław commune (site 18) in the years 2008–2015. Originally, the deposit involved at least 273 elements scattered as a result of deep ploughing. It comprises Islamic coins (183 specimens), West European coins (71 specimens), as well as silver jewellery (19 specimens). In the course of explorations of an early medieval fortified centre in Pawłówek on the periphery of East Pomerania and Kuyavia, as many as 49 coins and one planchet were found deposited within cultural layers dated back from the turn of the 1070s to the beginning of the 1100s. The article concerns an early medieval silver hoard, recently (and accidentally) discovered at a suburb settlement in Niedźwiedź in Dobrzyń region. The settlement is a part of a large complex with a stronghold and a developed lake shore, identified with the historical Steklin mentioned in the so-called Mogilno Falsification. This study bridges a gap between palaeopathology and the textual analysis, with the aim of investigating whichdiseases and pathological lesions could have been associated with disability in Early Mediaeval Culmen in Poland.We used palaeopathological methods to examine 661 skeletons, as well as reviewed Early Mediaeval hagiographiesand chronicles.
