Delay and probability discounting tasks are useful for understanding aspects of decision making. The current study, which employed a mixed-model design to assess discounting of penile-vaginal intercourse (PVI), was conducted online with male and female participants recruited from Prolific (N = 300; mean age = 34.1 years). Results of the novel delay and probability discounting tasks indicated that as the delay to PVI increased, or as PVI became le…

  • Perceptual Accuracy in the Balance

    Open Access•E M Clark, Gregory D Morrow et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•1998•Citada por: 2•Referências: 15

In two studies, we investigated whether individuals were accurate in perceiving weight-related attitudes of their romantic partner. We also investigated whether accuracy was moderated by whether the partner was currently attempting to lose weight, relationship commitment level, amount of discussion about weight and importance of weight. Each individual answered questions assessing their own weight concerns and perceptions, and similar questions a…

  • Individual and Partner Love Styles

    Open Access•Gregory D Morrow, E M Clark et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•1995•Citada por: 18•Referências: 22

The goal of this study was to explore the association between the love styles endorsed by respondents and their romantic partners on the one hand, and the quality of their romantic involvements on the other. A sample of 186 couples at a large southern university completed a questionnaire that included a shortened version of Hendrick & Hendrick's (1986) Love Attitudes Scale (LAS) designed to assess six love styles originally proposed by Lee (1973)…

The purpose of the research was to examine the stability of dimensions extracted from a body of free response data under conditions of variation in the initial data reduction procedures. Data consisted of over 1500 expressions of concern and questions raised by an elderly population. Complete sequences of analytic steps were conducted on the data by two groups of experimenters working independently. These sequences included determining representa…

A survey of adult romantic involvements was conducted to test hypotheses regarding the determinants and consequences of four characteristic responses to dissatisfaction: exit, voice, loyalty, and neglect. In general, greater prior satisfaction with relationships and greater investment of resources in relationships were associated with stronger tendencies to react to problems constructively, with voice and loyalty, and lesser tendencies to react d…

  • Impact of couple patterns of problem solving on distress and nondistress in dating relationships

Caryl E Rusbult, Dennis J Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1986•Citada por: 38

A theory of couple patterns of problem solving that involves the Rusbult and Zembrodt (1983) exit-voice-loyalty-neglect typology of problem-solving responses is advanced and tested in a sample of dating relationships. Destructive problem-solving responses (exit and neglect) were more powerfully predictive of couple distress/nondistress than were constructive problem-solving behaviors (voice and loyalty). Tendencies to react with voice to mild rel…
