    김정은 집권 이후 북한 사회에서는 ‘인민’을 위한 ‘사회주의문명국’을 건설할 것이라는 비전이 대대적으로 선포되었다. ‘사회주의문명국’ 건설의 비전에 맞추어 평양을 시작으로 주요 지방 곳곳에 ‘인민’을 위한 ‘현대적’이며 ‘과학적’인 건물, 거리, 공공시설이 활발하게 건축되었다. 본 연구는 김정은이 새롭게 선포하고 있는 ‘인민’을 위한 ‘사회주의문명국’ 건설의 담론과, 현재까지 활발하게 추진하고 있는 것으로 보이는 북한의 도시개발을 주목하여, 이들 사회담론과 개발의 실제가 어떻게 연결되고, 이들이 주민들의 삶에 영향을 미치는지 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 앙리 르페브르(Henri Lefebvre)의 도시이론을 차용하였다. 르페브르가 논의하는 공간 생산의 3가지 차원, ‘공간 재현’, ‘재현 공간’, ‘공간적 실천’을 고려하여, 북한 도시공간을 구상하고 설계하는 북한의 정치엘리트들의 공간 구획, 도시 공…
