Coaching Learners During Medical School Training
Assessing Medical Student Competency in Community-Engaged Service Learning
Coaching through liminal phases
PURPOSE: To explore graduating medical students' insights on the value of coaching experiences during each year of medical school while examining how coaching may support student development at various stages of training. METHODS: We invited all graduating students who participated in the coaching program from first through fourth year to participate in one 90-minute virtual focus group. We conducted a thematic analysis of all the focus group tra…
Integrating artificial intelligence into medical education
We surveyed faculty and students at a large urban medical school to assess their awareness, usage patterns, and perceived barriers to AI adoption, aiming to identify opportunities for meaningful integration of AI into medical education. We developed a custom survey and distributed it to all medical students (Years 1-4) and a selected group of faculty involved in the MD curriculum. We used descriptive statistics to analyze quantitative data and co…
Recommendations to address and research systemic bias in assessment
While limited to data from a single workshop, the results offered perspectives about areas for further research shared by a group of directors of medical education research units from diverse backgrounds. The workshop produced valuable insights into the need for more evidence-based interventions that promote more equitable assessment practices grounded in real-world situations and that attenuate the effects of bias
When I say … diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)
To create belonging in medical education, Wyatt et al. argue that institutions must consider diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) from a systems‐based perspective that integrates each of these components

Mutual mentoring
Introduction: In an ever-changing academic environment, the traditional model of one senior mentor is no longer sufficient to provide faculty with the interdisciplinary perspective needed for success. We adapted, implemented and examined an interschool/interprofessional Mutual Mentoring Program. Methods: Participants were expected to expand their mentoring networks, formulate career goals and achievement plans, and, achieve concrete career goal(s)…
The interplay between residency program culture and feedback culture
The findings of this study add to the literature by describing residents' preferences of their residency program's culture, and providing insights into the interplay between the residency program and feedback cultures
The learning environment in the obstetrics and gynecology clerkship
For reasons that remain not entirely clear, Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob/Gyn) clerkships often exhibit comparatively higher rates of medical student mistreatment. To explore perceptions of our local learning environment, focus groups were held with students yet to start (pre-students) and students having completed (post-students) their Ob/Gyn clerkship. Topics of discussion included learning expectations and experiences, perceptions of mistreatm…
