    Open Access•Denalee M O’malley, Cindy K Blair et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Genetics•2022

  • Self-Selected Walking Cadence after 16-Week Light-Intensity Physical Activity Intervention for Older Cancer Survivors

Open Access•Elizabeth Harding, Elizabeth M Harding et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

In this secondary analysis of a light-intensity physical activity intervention, we hypothesized that older cancer survivors would self-select a faster walking cadence to meet their daily step goals. Average steps/day and free-living walking cadence were measured in 41 participants (age 69 ± 3.1 years) with an ActivPAL monitor worn 7 days pre- and post-intervention. Besides peak and average walking cadence, stepping patterns associated with ambula…

Open Access•Tamar Ginossar, Heidi Rishel Brakey et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Wearable activity trackers (WATs) hold great promise in increasing physical activity among older cancer survivors. However, older cancer survivors who reside in rural regions are at increased risk of being digitally marginalized. The goal of this study was to learn about WATs adoption motivation and needs of rural older cancer survivors who live in New Mexico, one of the most rural states with the lowest broadband Internet connectivity in the Uni…

  • Association of Leisure-Time Physical Activity With Risk of 26 Types of Cancer in 1.44 Million Adults

    Steven C Moore, I-Min Lee et al.•ARTICLE•JAMA Internal Medicine•2016

IMPORTANCE: Leisure-time physical activity has been associated with lower risk of heart-disease and all-cause mortality, but its association with risk of cancer is not well understood. OBJECTIVE: To determine the association of leisure-time physical activity with incidence of common types of cancer and whether associations vary by body size and/or smoking. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: We pooled data from 12 prospective US and European cohor…
