  • Attributable risk of hospital admissions for ischemic stroke due to ambient air pollution

Open Access•Yanhu Ji, Lina Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background This study aimed to examine the association between ambient air pollution and hospital admissions for ischemic stroke, as well as the attributable disease burden, in Zhangzhou, a subtropical city in China. Methods Daily data on hospital admissions for ischemic stroke, meteorological factors, and ambient air pollutants (PM 2 .5, PM10, SO 2 , NO 2 , CO, and O3) were collected in Zhangzhou from 2020 to 2023. A Poisson generalized additive…

  • Association between ambient air pollution and daily non-accidental mortality

Open Access•Yanhu Ji, Yangchun Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background Current epidemiological evidence on the association between air pollutants and non-accidental mortality remains limited, particularly in developing countries. This study aimed to investigate the short-term association between ambient air pollution and non-accidental mortality, and to quantify the attributable disease burden in Shantou, a subtropical coastal city in China. Methods Daily data on non-accidental mortality, meteorological f…

  • Health risk and disease burden of daily hospitalizations for vaginitis due to air pollution

Open Access•R H Lin, Roumei Lin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Short-term exposure to PM 2.5 , PM 10 , SO 2 , and NO 2 significantly increased vaginitis hospitalization risks, particularly among younger women (20-39 years) and during the cold season (October-March). This suggests the need for air pollution reduction and health education for high-risk groups to minimize exposure to pollutants

  • Impacts of short-term air pollution exposure on appendicitis admissions

Open Access•Yanhu Ji, Xuefeng Su et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Background Emerging evidence indicates that air pollutants contribute to the development and progression of gastrointestinal diseases. However, there is scarce evidence of an association with appendicitis in mainland China. Methods In this study, Linfen city, one of the most polluted cities in mainland China, was selected as the study site to explore whether air pollutants could affect appendicitis admissions and to identify susceptible populatio…

  • Risk assessment and disease burden of extreme precipitation on hospitalizations for acute aortic dissection in a subtropical coastal Chinese city

Open Access•Yanhu Ji, Jianping Xiong et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Background: Extreme precipitation events are becoming more frequent due to climate change. The present study aimed to explore the impacts of extreme precipitation on hospitalizations for acute aortic dissection (AAD) and to identify susceptible populations and quantify the corresponding disease burden. Methods: The present study used a distributed lag nonlinear model (DLNM) with a quasi-Poisson function to investigate the association between extr…

  • Effects of extreme precipitation on hospital visit risk and disease burden of depression in Suzhou, China

Open Access•Gang Jiang, Yanhu Ji et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

Our findings suggested that extreme precipitation may increase the risk of outpatient visits for depression. Further studies on the burden of depression found that females, aged ≥65 years, and patients with multiple visits were priority targets for future warnings. Active intervention measures against extreme precipitation events should be taken to reduce the risk of depression outpatient visits

  • An Intervention to Reduce Bicycle Injuries among Middle School Students in Rural China

Open Access•Yanhu Ji, Yanru Ye et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2017

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention to reduce bicycle injuries among rural middle school students in China. A one-year cluster-randomized controlled trial was conducted with seventh grade students from six middle schools in two towns in rural Chaoshan, China. The two towns were randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group. Road safety education materials, two lectures on road safety, and a series of …

  • Risk factors of bicycle traffic injury among middle school students in chaoshan rural areas of china

Open Access•Zhen-bin Lin, Yanhu Ji et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2017

Bicycle injuries are frequent in China. Three risk factors on bicycle traffic injury among middle school students in Chaoshan rural areas of China were identified. This study provides important data to develop intervention strategies for China and other developing countries
