Financing fragility and pandemic preparedness in Central Asia
Background The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the structural fragility of health systems built on volatile external financing. Central Asia—Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan—receives health financing from three divergent donor streams: OECD bilateral and multilateral channels, Chinese Belt and Road Initiative mechanisms, and Eurasian Economic Union frameworks. The 2025 suspension of USAID operations, which eliminated 69–…
Unstable aid, unstable lives
Recent reductions in global health aid, notably the 2025 freeze of USAID funding, have severely disrupted essential health programs in over 130 countries. This disruption has hit essential health interventions such as HIV/AIDS treatment, maternal health, and nutritional support the hardest. Shift in donor engagement along with the sudden USAID freeze brought systemic vulnerabilities in health systems highly reliant on external assistance, particu…
Measurement Fragmentation in Educational and Psychological Research
Measurement is fundamental to scientific inference, yet educational and psychological research often relies on instruments that are shortened, partially administered, or otherwise modified without evidence that the resulting scores remain valid. This article examines measurement fragmentation, defined as the use of selected parts, abbreviated forms, or derivative versions of an instrument as though they were interchangeable with the validated for…
Remembering the Stages, Forgetting the Person
One hundred years after the publication of The Art of Thought (1926), Graham Wallas remains widely cited yet poorly understood. His stages of preparation, incubation, illumination, and verification continue to circulate as a foundational model of creativity, even as the life that gave rise to them has largely faded from view. This article argues that this disconnect reflects a deeper problem in creativity research: the tendency to separate ideas …
A Neuroscientific Reinterpretation of Graham Wallas's Creative Process
This investigation reassesses Graham Wallas's lifelong work on creativity, correcting 11 widespread misreadings that have shaped how scholars cite and apply his ideas. While The Art of Thought (1926) is the best known, Wallas's earlier and later writings reveal a broader framework for education, democracy, and human development. Far from offering a rigid stage model, he proposed a dynamic cycle of preparation, imagination, and verification, where…
Association between Thyroid Function and Insulin Resistance Indices in Korean Adolescents
The findings suggest that the relationship between thyroid function and IR in adolescents might vary depending on sex, and the degree of association was significant in obese adolescents
Determinants of adherence to personal preventive behaviours based on the health belief model
To flatten the epidemic curve, it is important to understand the public's risk perception and the motivation behind behavioural responses that aim to promote preventive behaviours among the public. Thus, this study calls for the provision of accessible and credible information sources and demonstrates a public health campaign that encourages the public's engagement in preventive behaviours towards COVID-19
Relationship between Parents’ Cultural Values and Children’s Creativity
Relationships between parents’ cultural values and their children’s creativity were examined. A total of 333 Korean students (163 boys and 170 girls) with their parents (101 fathers and 232 mothers) participated in this study. Parents’ cultural values were measured by the EWPS-B, and children’s creativity was measured by the TTCT and the RIBS. The results showed that parents’ overemphasis on Asian cultural values, especially social conformity and…

The Creativity Crisis
The Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT) was developed in 1966 and renormed five times: in 1974, 1984, 1990, 1998, and 2008. The total sample for all six normative samples included 272,599 kindergarten through 12th grade students and adults. Analysis of the normative data showed that creative thinking scores remained static or decreased, starting at sixth grade. Results also indicated that since 1990, even as IQ scores have risen, creative …

Can We Trust Creativity Tests? A Review of the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT)
Dr. E. Paul Torrance, "Father of Creativity," is best known for developing the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT). The TTCT was developed by Torrance in 1966. It has been renormed 4 times: in 1974, 1984, 1990, and 1998. There are 2 forms (A and B) of the TTCT-Verbal and 2 forms (A and B) of the TTCT-Figural. However, in the scope of this review, only the TTCT-Figural was examined. The TTCT has been translated into more than 35 languages (…
The Latent Structure and Measurement Invariance of Scores on the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking–Figural
There is disagreement among researchers as to whether creativity is a unidimensional or multidimensional trait. Much of the debate centers around the most widely used measure of creativity, the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT). This study used data from 1,000 kindergartners (ages 5-7), 1,000 third graders (ages 7-11) and 1,000 sixth graders (ages 10-13). Confirmatory factor analyses were conducted for both the two-factor model and one-f…
