  • Changes in access to viral load testing, incidence rates of viral load suppression and rebound following the introduction of the ‘universal test and treat’ guidelines in Cameroon

Open Access•Cavin Epie Bekolo, Sylvester Atanga Ndeso et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2024

Cameroon adopted and started implementing in 2016, the ‘universal test and treat’ (UTT) guidelines to fast-track progress towards the 95-95-95 ambitious targets to end the HIV epidemic. Achieving the third 95 (viral load suppression) is the most desirable target in HIV care. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of this novel approach on access to viral load testing (VLT), viral suppression (VLS), and viral load rebound (VLR). A retrospective co…

  • The declining trend in HIV prevalence from population-based surveys in Cameroon between 2004 and 2018

Open Access•Cavin Epie Bekolo, Charles Kouanfack et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

The observed decline in HIV prevalence is statistically valid and reflects the observed decline in risky sexual behaviour that need to be sustained by the National HIV programme. Though universal access to ART has increased the number of persons surviving with HIV, this has not led to an increased prevalence of HIV in a setting with a rising population

  • Individual and healthcare supply-related barriers to treatment initiation in HIV-positive patients enrolled in the Cameroonian antiretroviral treatment access programme

Open Access•Pierre-Julien Coulaud, Camelia Protopopescu et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2021•Referências: 46

Increasing demand for antiretroviral treatment (ART) together with a reduction in international funding during the last decade may jeopardize access to ART. Using data from a cross-sectional survey conducted in 2014 in 19 HIV services in the Centre and Littoral regions in Cameroon, we investigated the role of healthcare supply-related factors in time to ART initiation in HIV-positive patients eligible for ART at HIV diagnosis. HIV service profile…

  • Changes in sexual activity and risk behaviors among PLWHA initiating ART in rural district hospitals in Cameroon – Data from the STRATALL ANRS 12110/ESTHER trial

Gilbert Ndziessi, Julien Cohen et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2013

The continued scaling-up of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Sub-Saharan Africa provides an opportunity to further study its impact on sexual behaviors among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). We explored time trend and correlates of sexual activity among PLWHA initiating ART in Cameroon and compared sexual risk behaviors between patients sexually active before and after initiating ART and those resuming sexual activity after ART initiation. Ana…

  • Hepatotoxicity and effectiveness of a Nevirapine-based antiretroviral therapy in HIV-infected patients with or without viral hepatitis B or C infection in Cameroon

    Open Access•Jules Brice Tchatchueng‐Mbougua, Jules B Tchatchueng Mbougua et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

This study suggests that the nevirapine-based antiretroviral therapy could be used safely as first-line treatment in patients with low CD4 cell count in Africa despite frequent coinfections with HBV or HCV and infrequent testing of these infections. Although testing for HBV and HCV should be systematically performed before initiating antiretroviral therapy, transaminases elevations at baseline or during treatment should be a decisive argument for…
