Identifying pediatric extrapulmonary tuberculosis through an active screening program
We assessed 188 children diagnosed with extrapulmonary tuberculosis in Bangladesh. Over half were aged 10–14 years old. Common symptoms included fever (91.5%), weight loss (88.3%), and decreased appetite (72.9%). Four children died prior to treatment; of 176 children on treatment, 4.0% had unsuccessful outcomes, potentially influenced by age and low weight. Findings highlight the need for improved diagnosis and management in children.
Age- and sex-specific care cascades to detect gaps in the care of children with tuberculosis in Bangladesh
Background: Programmatic interventions to increase the detection of children with tuberculosis (TB) are rarely evaluated to understand age- and sex-specific completion rates. We applied modified TB screening and treatment cascade frameworks to assess indicators of effective implementation by age and sex of a TB screening program for children (zero to 14 years) in Bangladesh. Methods: tests. Results: In total, we screened 552 182 males and 461 419…
Hygiene on maternity units
BACKGROUND: As the proportion of deliveries in health institutions increases in low- and middle-income countries, so do the challenges of maintaining standards of hygiene and preventing healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) in mothers and babies. Adequate water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and infection prevention and control (IPC) in these settings should be seen as integral parts of the broader domain of quality care. Assessment approache…
Cross-cultural adaptation of the short-form condom attitude scale
The results indicated that Bengali version of the scale have good metric properties for assessing attitudes toward condom use. Validated scale is a short, simple and reliable instrument for measuring attitudes towards condom use in vulnerable populations like current study sample. This culturally-customized scale can be used to monitor the progress of condom uptake and promotion activities in Bangladesh or similar settings
Epidemiology of depression and diabetes
A comprehensive situation assessment of injection practices in primary health care hospitals in Bangladesh
As far as the patients and providers' safety is concerned, this study demonstrated a need for further research exploring the dynamics of injection use and safety in Bangladesh. In a context where a high level of injection use and unsafe practices were reported, immediate prevention initiatives need to be operated through continued intervention efforts and health providers' training in primary care hospitals in Bangladesh
