A Resistance Training Program on Patients with Liver Cirrhosis
In patients with liver cirrhosis, a resistance exercise program improved physical fitness and quality of life, without adverse events. In addition, it seems that this type of training can bring some benefit to the inflammatory profile and oxidative stress of this population
Correlations Between Oxygen Consumption, Ventilatory Mechanics, and Lung Ultrasound in Individuals with Post-Covid Syndrome
Patients with PCS undergoing CPX demonstrated impaired functional capacity. In these individuals, higher age and BMI were associated with lower VO 2 peak. Furthermore, alterations in LUS and IOS may also be linked to reduced VO 2 peak. These findings are promising, as they were obtained using a low-cost device. Further studies are needed to investigate the factors that influence oxygen consumption in PCS
Comparison between acute effects of β-alanine supplementation on psychophysiological scales, blood lactate, training impulse and heart rate variability during high-intensity functional training
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of acute β-alanine supplementation on the rate of perceived exertion, training impulse and heart rate variability during high intensity functional training. Twelve trained men (age: 22.0 ± 5.0 years old; body mass index: 23.6 ± 4.2 Kg/m2; fat mass: 9.8 ± 2.3; VO2max: 54.0 ± 4.5 mL/kg/min) participated in the present study. At the first visit to the training center, they performed a cardiopu…
Chronic Effects of Different Intensities of Interval Training on Hemodynamic, Autonomic and Cardiorespiratory Variables of Physically Active Elderly People
Interval training (IT) is a very efficient method. We aimed to verify the chronic effects of IT with different intensities on hemodynamic, autonomic and cardiorespiratory variables in the elderly. Twenty-four physically active elderly men participated in the study and were randomized into three groups: Training Group A (TGA, n = 8), Training Group B (TGB, n = 8) and control group (CG, n = 8). The TGA and TGB groups performed 32 sessions (48 h int…
Ischemic Preconditioning Improves Handgrip Strength and Functional Capacity in Active Elderly Women
Background: Aging decreases some capacities in older adults, sarcopenia being one of the common processes that occur and that interfered with strength capacity. The present study aimed to verify the acute effect of IPC on isometric handgrip strength and functional capacity in active elderly women. Methods: In a single-blind, placebo-controlled design, 16 active elderly women (68.1 ± 7.6 years) were randomly performed on three separate occasions a…
Impact of Different Resistance Training Protocols on Balance, Quality of Life and Physical Activity Level of Older Women
All RT protocols improved PA levels and QoL after 16 weeks of training. For the improvement of balance, QoL and PA, older women can be subjected to PWT, AST and SET, and not be restricted to TRT
