  • Mindfulness buffers the negative effects of social media overuse on work effort through state self-control during crisis

Ellen Choi, Erica Carleton et al.•ARTICLE•Behaviour and Information…•2025

To examine the impact of social media overuse on work effort amidst crisis, we apply Conservation of Resources theory to explain how social media acts as an internal stressor that depletes daily self-regulatory resources, resulting in lower daily work effort. Further, we explore whether daily mindfulness acts as a personal resource that individuals can draw from to buffer the negative effects of social media on organisational outcomes. To examine…

  • The Me You (Don’t) See

    Open Access•Ellen Choi, Kristyn A Scott et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Leadership &…•2025•Referências: 27

As the expectations to “be yourself at work” rise, leaders must determine which self they reveal in what settings. To explore how leaders balance their self-identity in steady contexts, as well as crisis situations, we adopt an exploratory and inductive qualitative approach to understand how they filter their intrapersonal experiences and why. We draw on 65 in-depth interviews with leaders in a variety of industries and occupations collected at t…

  • The role of daily mindfulness on work–home conflict

    Open Access•Megan M Walsh, Erica Carleton et al.•ARTICLE•Equal Opportunities International•2025•Referências: 49

Purpose We investigate how mindfulness can help women leaders manage the work–home conflict using boundary theory. In this daily diary study, we examine daily levels of mindfulness as an antecedent to daily self-control and perceptions of work–home conflict. We propose that higher levels of daily mindfulness act as a personal resource that fosters self-control capacity, and this leads to a greater ability to manage work–home conflict. Design/meth…

  • Honesty Is Not Always the Best Policy

Open Access•Ellen Choi, Lieke L Ten Brummelhuis et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Leadership &…•2024•Referências: 25

In this article, we integrate social exchange theory with insights from contingent self-esteem to explain why leader transparency (LT) might not always be reciprocated by enhanced follower voice. We theorize that when leaders are transparent, they initiate a social process that offers the exchange of honesty by signaling that the work environment is psychologically safe enough for followers to express their opinions in return. Yet, for individual…

  • Waist-to-height ratio index for predicting incidences of hypertension

Open Access•Jung Ran Choi, Sang Baek Koh et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

A positive association between WHtR and the incidence of hypertension was observed in Korean adults. The findings of the present community-based prospective study suggest that the WHtR may be a better predictor of incident hypertension

  • The Researcher as Experimental Subject
