  • Late Pleistocene Human Friction Skin Prints from Pendejo Cave, New Mexico

    Open Access•Donald Chrisman, Richard S Macneish et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1996•Citada por: 8•Referências: 11

In the excavation of Pendejo Cave (FB 9366) near Orogrande, New Mexico, 16 friction skin imprints were found in five stratified zones on clay nodules, baked at over 120°C. After careful analysis, expert dermatoglyphologists determined that these imprints had positive primate characteristics. The imprints are probably of human origin, since no other primates are known to have existed in prehistoric New Mexico. Eight of the imprints occurred in thr…

  • Qualitative dermatoglyphic traits as measures of population distance

Open Access•M Sharif Kamali, Mahdis Kamali et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1991•Referências: 22

Thirteen Iranian populations of diverse origin have been analyzed for qualitative dermatoglyphic features utilizing bilateral finger and palmar prints of 3,158 individuals. Bimanual differences were significant for some of the features examined, whereas sex differences were frequently nonsignificant. Interpopulational variation displayed significant heterogeneity for all of the features studied. Distance analysis and constructed dendrograms provi…

  • Diversity of palmar pattern ridge counts in Iranian populations

Open Access•M Sharif Kamali, Mahdis Kamali et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1990•Citada por: 3•Referências: 16

We analyzed bilateral palmar prints of 3,158 individuals from 13 Iranian populations of diverse origins for palmar pattern ridge counts. Right palms did not show greater counts than the left in the majority of the populations studied. Highly significant interpopulational variation was observed for most palmar areas of both males and females. Dendrograms of males and combined sexes showed a good fit with the ethnohistoric background of the populat…

  • On Natural Selection and the Inheritance of Wealth [and Comments and Reply]

John Hartung, Andrew Abelson et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1976•Citada por: 21•Referências: 3

Greater reproductive variance among males than among females is presented as a component of natural selection's influence in determining preferential treatment of males in the inheritance of wealth. In conjunction, the transmission of sex chromosomes and their attendant probabilities of carrying genes identical by descent are traced for several generations in order to illustrate a male bias in species whose male sex is heterogametic (XY) while th…

  • Principles of Visual Anthropology

Timothy Asch, Asen Balikci et al.•BOOK•Principles of Visual Anthropology•1975

This edition contains 27 articles, written by scholars and filmmakers who are generally acknowledged as the international authorities in the field, and a new preface by the editor. The book covers ethnographic filming and its relations to the cinema and television; applications of filming to anthropological research, the uses of still photography, archives, and videotape; subdisciplinary applications in ethnography, archeology, bio-anthropology, …

  • Harold Cummins—and the birth, growth and development of dermatoglyphics

    Open Access•Jamshed Mavalwala•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1975•Referências: 32

The work of Harold Cummins in dermatoglyphics is reviewed, in the areas of populational variability, twin studies, dermatoglyphics of nonhuman primates, and dermatoglyphic methodology

  • The palmar dermatoglyphics of Macaca fascicularis

  • The dermatoglyphics of the 18q– syndrome

    Open Access•Jamshed Mavalwala, Miriam G Wilson et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1970•Citada por: 1•Referências: 7

The dermatoglyphics of three patients with an 18q – karyotype are reported. Considering the total of 20 cases now known, this deletion definitely affects the dermatoglyphic phenotype of the distal part of the palm resulting in complex configurations in this area. The fingers of these cases display a high frequency of large composite patterns

  • Sole dermatoglyphics of XYY patients

    Open Access•Jamshed Mavalwala, Homer A Thompson et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1970•Citada por: 1•Referências: 2

The low incidence of a tibial loop in the distal hypothenar area of the sole is suggested as a diagnostic feature for XYY patients. No other prepubertal feature is on record

  • Dermatoglyphics of the XYY syndrome

    Open Access•Jamshed Mavalwala, Charles E Parker et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1969•Citada por: 1•Referências: 8

The presence of an extra Y chromosome in Man results in a condition termed the XYY Syndrome. Such individuals are tall, exhibit aggressive behavior, and may be mentally retarded. XYY patients are usually discovered after they have committed a crime. Even though relatively few XYY patients have been recorded so far in the literature the incidence of this condition in US males has been estimated at 1 in 300. Thus the majority of XYY's lead normal l…

  • Basic Problems in Physical Development in Man in Relation to the Evaluation of Development of Children and Youth [and Comments and Reply]

Napoleon Wolanski, Paul T Baker et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1967•Citada por: 4

After a period of passive observation of his own phylogenesis, Homo sapiens has begun to take an active role in the development of his species. Having progressed through the stages of treatment and prophylaxis of disease, he will eventually become capable of directing human development. This stage is of concern to physical anthropology, one of the branches of biomedical science. It is also of particular interest to cultural anthropology, because …
