Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report
In support of the first Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report (TOAR) a relational database of global surface ozone observations has been developed and populated with hourly measurement data and enhanced metadata. A comprehensive suite of ozone data products including standard statistics, health and vegetation impact metrics, and trend information, are made available through a common data portal and a web interface. These data form the basis of the…
Supersaturations, microphysics and nitric acid partitioning in a cold cirrus cloud observed during CR-AVE 2006
Supersaturations, microphysics and nitric acid partitioning in a very cold subvisible tropical cirrus cloud observed on 2 February 2006, during the field campaign CR-AVE, are studied by comparing a simulated set of possible cloud development scenarios with the in situ observations. The scenario that best matches the observations is a cirrus cloud forming by heterogeneous freezing of a small number of ice nuclei with subsequent unimpeded mass acco…
Meridional gradients of light absorbing carbon over northern Europe
In situ measurements have been made in the upper troposphere of the properties of particles containing light absorbing carbon ( LAC). These measurements, made in late November 2006 over northern Europe, show that the average LAC mass concentration varies between 1 and 5 ng m(-3) over a latitude range 50 degrees to 70 degrees N, with maxima at 50 degrees and 66 degrees. The relative fraction of all particles larger than 0.1 mu m that contain LAC d…
