Paleogenetic Analysis of Individuals from Andronovo Double Burials at the Tartas-1 Cemetery, Baraba Forest-Steppe

The complex consisted of a sub-rectangular area surrounded by two concentric horseshoe-shaped ditches, three frame-andpost structures with shallow pits, and a series of pits for eve…
Study of the Bronze Age Settlement in the Tai Locality (Ust-Tartas-5 Site as a Part of the Karier Tai-1 Complex)
In 2019, a team of scholars did a geophysical monitoring of a part of the left bank of the Tai locality in Novosibirsk Region. During this process, some anomalies which could indicate the presence of ancient structures were identified at the Karier Tai-1 archaeological site. One of them was explored in the 2025 field season. A large trapezoidal dark grey spot was discovered in the northern part of section 5. A humus-filled black spot of sub-recta…

Evidence of the Baraba Early Neolithic Culture at the Vengerovo-2 Settlement (Baraba Forest-Steppe)
In 2015–2016, a large structure of sophisticated design was excavated during the study of Bronze Age dwellings of the Krotovo culture at the Vengerovo-2 settlement (Vengerovo District, Novosibirsk Region). The Early Neolithic age of the structure was established from animal bone found in the object, making it possible to include the Vengerovo-2 settlement into the circle of sites of the Baraba culture. The structure was a deep, multi-level, two-c…
Fish Storing Pits as a Stable Tradition of Paleoeconomics among the Ancient Cultures of the Tai Area
The Tai locality in Vengerovo District of Novosibirsk Region has always attracted humans. In 1973, a two-meter-deep pit which contained fish bones and scales, bones of mammoth and rhinoceros, stone tools, and bison skull was discovered on its terrace. The object was interpreted as a Pleistocene pit, but its functional purpose remained unclear. In recent decades traces of early settlements and series of pits intended for fermenting fish have been …
Funeral and Commemorative Complexes of the Andronovo (Fedorovo) Culture and Their Role in the Ritual Practice (Evidence from the Tartas-1 Site)
The largest necropolis of the Andronovo (Fedorovo) culture was explored at the Tartas-1 site which is located in the Ob-Irtysh interfluve. We describe fi ve burials with casting molds from the Late Krotovo (Cherno-Ozerye) cemetery Tartas-1 in the Baraba foreststeppe. Three of them form a distinct group belonging to two parallel rows of graves. One of the reconstructed molds was destined for casting Seima-Turbino-type celts, the other, for manufacturing thin rods, round in section. One kernel was used for making a hollow in a tiny chisel-like tool. All molds are made of clay and bear…

The Russian-Japanese "Pazyryk" Programme the First Year of Joint Studies
The early Iron Age tumuli of the Altai mountains are unique in preserving largely intact frozen corpses, horses, textiles, leather and wood of the Scythian period. Further such burials exist: in 1991 a reconnaissance excavation of a frozen tumulus at Ak-Alakh again yielded a fabulous inventory. However the conditions of their preservation require their rapid rescue and conservation and adequate funding to do so. In 1991 the USSR and Japan signed …
