    THE GERMAN SPOKEN IN Fredericksburg, Texas, deviates in certain characteristic ways from Contemporary Standard German as described by Siebs and Duden. Nevertheless it is sufficiently intelligible to the speaker of Standard German to be classed as a colonial variety of the standard language and not as a separate entity.
