Conversational Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Family Life
Although conversational artificial intelligence (CAI) has become increasingly integrated into daily life, research examining its role is limited to user engagement and Human‐AI interaction. The aim of this article is to review existing research on CAI use in everyday family life and conceptualize its role from a family systemic perspective. The proposed model suggests that the role of CAI agents in the family system evolves over time via three di…
Rethinking human– AI “attachment” in family systems
Objective In the Family Relations special issue, “Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Family Life,” McDaniel et al. (2025a) argued that human interactions with conversational artificial intelligence (CAI) agents, such as digital assistants and chatbots, increasingly resemble core processes described by attachment theory. Drawing on empirical research, they suggested that users' experiences in, attributions of, and reflections about CAI agents sug…
Emerging Adults’ Infidelity Intentions in Romantic Relationships
Infidelity has negative consequences on both partners’ mental health and romantic relationship quality. Recent studies demonstrated that adult attachment insecurity is linked to Turkish emerging adults’ infidelity intentions. However, the associations of infidelity intentions with perceived emotional and sexual intimacy and parental infidelity experience need further investigation. In order to address this gap in the literature, the current study…

Understanding young women’s interpretations of and response intentions to dating violence is crucial for tackling this problem. Thus, the current research aimed to identify the effects of romanticization and abuse type on young Turkish w…

The effects of ideal standards and parental approval on mate choice among emerging adults
The current study examines how ideal standards and parental approval interplay in the decision to marry via three consecutive studies among Turkish emerging adults. The first study explored desirable traits for a potential spouse, and participants ( N = 309) rated and rank-ordered 56 traits. Findings revealed that trustworthiness, honesty, and loyalty were the most desired traits. Informed by the first study's findings, we designed vignettes, tes…

The link between attitudes toward probationers and job burnout in Turkish probation officers
The goal of the current study was to investigate individual‐level factors associated with job burnout among probation officers (POs) and, specifically, to examine if attitudes toward probationers were linked with job burnout in the context of the recently established probation system in Turkey. Participants ( N = 115) were recruited from a probation office in Istanbul. Job burnout was assessed via three components: emotional exhaustion, depersona…

How Mentor Support Interacts With Mother and Teacher Support in Predicting Youth Academic Adjustment
The Cultural Lens Approach to Bowen Family Systems Theory
An accumulation of theoretical and empirical work focuses on expanding Bowen family systems theory (BFST) to be more culturally expansive by including gender, ethnicity, race, social class, and sexual orientation, as well as family history, values, and rituals. In the current article, we contribute to the discussion of culture in BFST and move the question of diversity from how family processes are different to why they are different. Utilizing H…
Mentoring Relationship Closures in Big Brothers Big Sisters Community Mentoring Programs
Previous research suggests that early mentoring relationship ( MR ) closures may have harmful consequences for the health and well‐being of youth participating in community‐based mentoring programs. However, knowledge of the factors that lead some MR s to close early has been slow to emerge. This study examined patterns and correlates of early versus on‐time MR closures among 569 youth participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters community mentoring…
Mentoring Relationships, Positive Development, Youth Emotional and Behavioral Problems
Mentoring programs show promise for preventing emotional and behavioral problems among at‐risk youth, but little is known about processes that may be most critical to achieving this end. This study explored indicators of positive youth development (PYD; competence, confidence, connection, care and compassion, character) as mediators of associations of mentoring support with youth emotional and behavioral problems. The sample included 501 youth pa…
Intervention for Homeless, Substance Abusing Mothers
Little empirically-based information is available regarding how best to intervene with substance-abusing homeless mothers. This study pilot-tested a comprehensive intervention with 15 homeless women and their 2- to 6-year-old children, recruited from a local family shelter. All participants were offered integrated intervention with three major components. The first component was housing which included 3 months of rental and utility assistance, an…

This study uses a qualitative focus group research method to examine the needs of substance abusing homeless mothers recruited from a homeless families' shelter. Twenty eight women were engaged in three focus groups to identify their needs and…

The data came from a cross-sectional survey on a sample of 140 runaway adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 years who were recruited from the only runaway crisis shelter i…
