Correlates and Estimation of Occupational Prestige
Ratings of the ninety occupations selected by the National Opinion Research Center were made by a group of judges on the responsibility, training, education, and skill required in each occupation, and showed a multiple correlation of .962 with NORC prestige scores. The personal autonomy of the job holder added no significant explanation of variance in prestige. This finding supports the views of recent theorists and is consistent with the Davis-M…

A survey revealed that teachers considered different subjects more appropriately taught by men or by women. In evaluating prestige of teachers of different subjects, they attributed higher prestige to whichever sex conformed to the subjects' sex stereotypes.
