    Open Access•Mark L Wei, MARK L WEISS•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1989

Hypervariabal minisatellite DNA is a recently described class of nuclear sequences with no known biological function. The minisatellites do form a subtype of restricition fragment length polymorphisms possessing several characteristics particularly intriguing to anthropologists interested in forensics, sociobiology, primate conservation, genetic variability, and molecular evolution. The sequence occupy at least five dozen loci scattered throughou…

  • Application of DNA fingerprinting probes to old world monkeys

    Open Access•Mark L Wei, MARK L WEISS et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•1988

Analysis of tandem‐repetitive minisatellite DNA in humans provides great discriminatory power in paternity identification and individualization of tissue samples. The molecular probes used to study these hyper‐variable loci are here applied to DNA isolated from related animals in four species of Old World monkeys. Probes 33.6 and 33.15 are shown to cross‐hybridize with variable minisatellites in Macaca fuscata, Macaca silenus, Erythrocebus patas …

  • Nucleic acid evidence bearing on hominoid relationships

    Open Access•Mark L Wei, MARK L WEISS•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1987•Citada por: 5•Referências: 157

Molecular approaches to primate evolutionary relationships have been in use for 25 years. Recent advances in nucleic acid technology have permitted increasing resolution in assessing the topology and timing of primate phylogeny. The basics of these new approaches and their possibilities and limitations are set forth in reference to hominoid evolution. Specific reference is made to recent research involving DNA-DNA liquid hybridization, restrictio…
