Jökulhlaup is the Icelandic term for a sudden and substantial release of subglacial and/or proglacial water. The subglacial volcano Katla and its associated glacier Mýrdalsjökull, near Iceland's southern coast, have the potential to cause catastrophic jökulhlaups through geothermally induced melting and volcanic eruptions. In the indigenous Mexican village of Hueyapan, there is a clear contrast between the supernatural beliefs curers use to explain illness and the naturalistic assumptions made by this community's bonesetters. The relation between veteran status and 15 indicators of alcohol consumption and problem drinking is examined using data from the 1977, 1983, and 1985 National Health Interview Surveys conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics.
