  • A generalized additive model to disentangle age and diagnosis-specific cohort effects in psychological and behavioral outcomes in people living with HIV

Open Access•VESPA2 study group, Luis Sagaon-Teyssier et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

Psychosocial and behavioral outcomes are complex processes which can be explained in different ways by a combination of the clinical and social contexts which PLWH are exposed to at the time of diagnosis, and by developmental characteristics. A greater understanding of these processes could inform healthcare policy-making for specific HIV generations and different HIV age groups

  • Intimate ties of people living with HIV in France resulted both from social status and the experience of being HIV-infected

Pascaline Feuillet, Christine Hamelin et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2018

Based on data from the ANRS-Vespa2 study, conducted among a representative sample of PLWHIV (France, 2011), we studied intimate ties with relatives and friends and their determinants. Six social network profiles were identified, with a clear association with socioepidemiological groups: the most surrounded individuals were MSM, and the most isolated ones were sub-Saharan African migrants (especially women). Social networks were shaped both by mat…

  • Health-related quality of life of people living with HIV followed up in hospitals in France

Taoufiq Douab, Fabienne Marcellin et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2014

In recent years, France has witnessed both structural changes in the population of people living with HIV and a relative improvement in the social representation of HIV infection. However, potential changes in people's day-to-day experience with HIV have not been documented. We used data from the national surveys ANRS-VESPA (2003) and VESPA2 (2011) to compare the levels and patterns of correlates of health-related quality of life (HRQL) in adult …

  • Multiple discriminations experienced by people living with HIV in France

    Élise Marsicano, Rosemary Dray-Spira et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2014

Since the advent of AIDS, discrimination has remained at the core of the experience of people living with HIV (PLHIV). PLHIV who belong to minority groups are exposed to discrimination not only on the grounds of their HIV infection but also because of rejecting attitudes towards drug users, homosexuals and black people. This article aimed to measure the frequency of discrimination and assess its correlates among PLHIV in France. We used data from…

  • Frequency and correlates of late presentation for HIV infection in France

    Kayigan d'Almeida Wilson, Rosemary Dray-Spira et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2014

Correlates of late presentation (LP) for HIV infection in Metropolitan France and French overseas departments (FODs) were assessed among HIV-infected patients recently diagnosed, using data from a large cross-sectional survey, representative of the French HIV-infected population, conducted in 2011. LP was defined as presentation with either clinical AIDS events within the calendar year of diagnosis or CD4 < 350/mm(3) and presentation with advance…

  • Gender, socio-economic status, migration origin and neighbourhood of residence are barriers to HIV testing in the Paris metropolitan area

Véronique Massari, Annabelle Lapostolle et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2011

In France, numerous HIV patients still discover their HIV status as a result of AIDS-related symptoms. We investigated factors related to the absence of any HIV testing in men and women separately, using the data from the SIRS cohort, which includes 3023 households representative of the Paris metropolitan area in 2005. The failure to use HIV testing services was studied in relation to individual socio-economic and demographic factors as well as s…

  • HIV-positive men who have sex with men

France Lert, Remi Sitta et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2010

The conceptualisation of male who have sex with male (MSM) to account for male homosexual behaviour has been developed to facilitate the endorsement of prevention message since the advent of HIV infection. Population studies performed to understand and monitor sexual and preventive behaviour usually recruit respondents through gay-friendly channels such as media, sexual venues or festivals, leading to recruitment bias. Few studies question possib…

Objectives. We sought to measure the difference in employment rates between HIV-seropositive and HIV-seronegative persons and to establish whether this difference varied according to the HIV-infected persons’ socioeconomic position as defined by education level. Methods. We used data from the VESPA (VIH: Enquête Sur les Personnes Atteintes) study, a large cross-sectional survey conducted among a nationally representative sample of 2932 HIV-infect…
