Employing the split-litter technique, the kittens from several litters of non-isogenic cats were divided into 3 experimental groups. The medical records of 218 children up to 15 years of age who had been admitted to a children's hospital because of eye injuries were reviewed, and the age and sex of each case recorded. For a control group, other-than-eye injuries were selected at random from the files of the same hospital without regard to type of injury, age, or sex. Experiments in the Substitution of Symptoms by Hypnosis
This report has presented 20 further hypnotic experiments in symptom substitution. The results of these experiments have tended to support the findings and conclusions of a previous investigation employing this method: that psychodynamically equivalent symptoms may replace original conversion reactions, but nonequivalent symptoms cannot be substituted in this way.
