Artificial Construction in the Upper Palaeolithic Layer 5.1 of Ushbulak Site
The article deals with the Late Upper Paleolithic complexes of the Ushbulak site and issues of the condition of specific culture-containing (with materials of different cultures or more than one cultural layer) deposits of this multilayered site. Undisturbed consistency of the culture-containing layer 5.1 is determined based on the analysis of the lithological-stratigraphic situation of the site and the results of refitting, indicating the absenc…
Leaf-Shaped Bifaces in the Initial Upper Paleolithic of Southern Siberia and Central Asia
An important component of the study of the complexes of the initial Upper Paleolithic (IUP) is the selection of marker tools – products with certain morphological properties and a specific chronological and territorial binding. One of the markers for the industries of the military-industrial conflict of Southern Siberia and the north of Central Asia are leaf-shaped and oval bifaces. These tools are flattened, have either a biconvex or a convex cr…
Sedimentary Rocks Exploitation in Upper Paleolithic Knapping Technology in the Territory of Central Asia and South Siberia
Study of petrographic composition is important for understanding how humans exploited available resources. Stone raw material played a pivotal role in the subsistence life of paleopopulations, influencing knapping technology, tool typology, routes of population movements within the home area, and possibly the size of the region. Petrographic study of assemblages, related to Initial Upper Paleolithic tradition in Central Asia – South Siberia, and …

Stratigraphy and Cultural Sequence of the Tolbor 21 Site (Northern Mongolia)
The Tolbor-21 site is located in North Mongolia in the valley of the Tulburiingol river. The excavations of 2014-2016 revealed the cultural sequence of development of the monument’s complexes throughout the entire length of the Upper Paleolithic. Cultural residues of the early Paleolithic, and possibly an initial Upper Paleolith from the site excavation are dated within two radiocarbon definitions: 44,640 ± 690 (MAMS-14933) from pit 1 (the depth …
